A pen is mightier than a sword
Self-awareness, Effective communication
Remember, Understand, Analysis
Objective 1: Creative writing is the best way to help students to develop their own powers of expression, empathy and critical reading and thinking. This is a wonderful way of improving students writing skills. Objective 2: Make students aware of their Mistakes- develop self awareness skills. Mistakes are inevitable part of our lives but what we can best reap from it is a life time learning. We all know that every time we make a mistake it cannot be erased or omitted. So better why not to preserve them in such a manner that we take a clue from it every time so that such mistakes do not occur and make us aware of our flaws which we invariably tend to cover without improving upon them.
Students are made aware of how they should be cautious with this tool because now they have been given the responsibility to use a tool with which, when you make a mistake you cannot erase it unlike they did with pencil. It leaves its stain. With this as a teacher I was able to tell students
Notebook, Pen paper, teachers should write some keywords which children can use in developing their writeup
All students are supposed to write a short paragraph on any any topic of their interest, for example: Their hobby, passions etc. In case you want students to prepare on this before, they can be told to think on it a day before the activity is conducted.
Begin the class with discussing on some areas of interest which children have worked on, ask questions like:
- What are your hobbies and interest?
- Why do you find it interesting? Or What aspect of these hobbies you like about
- How do you think you can improve your hobbies in future?
Keep writing the key words on the blackboard for children to be able to refer to while writing their article.
Students are given 15 mins in the class to write the activity. Define the amount of words in which it needs to be written. Can 100-150 words.
After students have written the paragraph, make a few of them read their work. And discuss the nuances of creative writing.
Interest among the students was generated by making them aware that they are big enough to use a new tool called 'Pen' for writing.
In the end of the assignment and after discussing their mistakes, teacher asked students why is it important to keep looking into oneself for the mistakes we keep making using this activity as an example.
Clearly explained, Creative, Effectively designed, Well crafted/ articulated
While we were discussing the importance of making mistakes, a child asked, ' How are we to rectify the error made by us while writing with pen, with out making it untidy?' The advice given was simple, children had scribbled over their mistakes and had tired to hide it, making the work very untidy.
As a teacher, I advised children not to scribble on their mistakes and hide them, instead make a small line over the mistake and re-write it neatly separately either above it or make an arrow and write in space below.
Prefer to give the topic or topics for creative writing to be given a day in advance. That ways it saves some time in the classroom and this activity finishes with in one period else it might spill over to the next session.
