Underlying Concept behind this activity
Right foundation of periodic table f set will help students learn to analyze how elements behave and have been classified n the table.

Class Activity Details
Step 1: Ask students to create a file of all elements in the periodic table with details as given in the attachments.
Step2: Ask them to color the table as shown n the picture

The project can be broken into two parts :
Step 1&2 can be done in summer holidays and assignment below can be done when taking up the chapter in class.
Extra information :Popar’s Interactive Periodic Table of Elements. It is a FREE app in the iTunes store (search Popar Periodic) and it allows you to view information about various elements, combine elements, and discover different compounds
Step 3: Make them answer the following questions.
- Observation activity to introduce concept of periodicity. Compare and contrast using these items. Brainstorm what other patterns are noticed in periodic table.
- Explain why the following statements are not correct. I) all groups contain metals & non metals ii) n group one reactivity increases n atomic number

What is common among all the elements present in one period?
Name two alkali metals present in Group 1.
An element X belongs to II group and 2nd period. Write atomic number and name of element.
The electronic configuration of an atom is 2,8,7. Give its atomic number, nature of oxide.
Why are noble gases placed in a separate group?
Lithium, sodium potassium belong to same group called alkali metals. Why?
