Essential Questions from data bank (Geography)
  • 1.Where are people and things located? Why there? How is each location unique? How is each location similar to other locations?
  • 2.What are the consequences of these interactions across space and time to human cultures and civilizations with the natural environment?
  • 17.What is the meaning of the term 'population' in the context of geography and place? Why does the population of a place matter?
Frame your own essential questions using selected keywords
  • What do you understand are the various Heat zones?
  • Why is Greenland called land of snow?
  • What might happen if Greenland moves closer to Tropic of Cancer?
  • How do we humans have used natural resources as Ice and oceans to sustain ourselves in Greenland?
  • Why are Igloos warm inside?
Keywords to frame your essential questions for the chapter
  • 2. What is the key concept/ idea in_______
  • 5. Why is so?
  • 16. How could we use.................to overcome.................................. (obstacle, constraint,challenge) ?
What activities will I choose to explain this concept/s in classroom

Given below is a period wise detailed explanation on how activities and essential questions will be integrated to explain the concept in the class.

How will you integrate the above selected/ defined questions to explain the concept/s that I have chosen for this chapter? What real life examples will I use to explain the above selected essential questions? For example: We learn about socket& ball joint concept in types of joints, how has human mind been inspired to use it in daily life to make things better for human ease. We have been able to use this concept in simple things like toys- mini transformers coming as surprise toys cars rear-view mirror attached to the windshield and complex things like machines-car joints where the wheel connect to that frame of the cars

Step 1: Will begin the chapter by asking students to check in the globe/ atlas Q1. Where is Greenland? They will identify Greenland in the map. Now Ask them to explain Q2. Why the chapter has been named- Greenland land of Snow? Q3. Will prompt them to identify region where Greenland falls in by looking into the atlas? Once students have answered that, then next question will be so Q4. What are the physical features of Polar regions? With this they will be able to articulate the answer for Q2.

Step 2: We will proceed the chapter with reading the first paragraph- Explaining Heat zones

Explain the various climatic zones Earth has been divided into and introduce frigid zone. Using the Atlas will ask children in which heat zone does India fall in?

Step 3: Ask children another question- Why do you think Greenland was given that name when it had so much snow? In case they are unable to answer then will tell them the story of Eric the Red the first European to explore Greenland.

Step 4: Now ask students to find the latitude and longitude  Greenland and while seeing the Atlas also tell the names of Bays and Straits that separate it from Canada

Step 5: Using their previous knowledge will try to probe and find what kind of vegetation and wild life do they think would be existing in Greenland

Step 6: Explain them the natural resources existing in the island and agricultural produce and connect it with life of the people in that region

In the end will ask them a question: How do we humans have used natural resources as Ice and oceans to sustain ourselves in Greenland?

A Hots based question: Why are Igloos warm from inside?
